Can I stain my granite?

Acidic substances like wine, coffee, fruit juice, tomato sauce and soda will not etch granite like they do on marble, but they could potentially stain the surface. Cooking oils may leave a stain if not cleaned. Using a specially granite or stone cleaner is recommended to keep your countertops in the best condition and protect the sealer, but for little messes and spills, soap and hot water is more than enough. Something that should also be considered is when using a cleaner, try to avoid anything with high acidic concentrations; the cleaners to watch out for would be anything with an orange or lemon scent to them as they have a higher acidic level then most everyday cleaners.

Granite is not just one type of mineral but a combination of minerals that create all the beautiful patterns you see. These minerals have different qualities and characteristics which react differently to extreme temperatures.
